What Does a Library Really Get When It Buys E-books and Audiobooks?
Tomorrow at the 29th International Book Fair in Kraków, Marcin Mioduszewski will discuss the differences between a physical copy, a digital file, and a license, as well as their practical implications for libraries and readers.
What rights does a library acquire, and for how long?
Can it lend out a purchased file?
What remains in the collection after the contract with the platform ends?
We’ll examine the limits of fair use and the questions worth asking before signing a contract. We’ll also discuss audiobooks, where the rights to the text, the narrator’s performance, and the recording require special attention.
Attorney Mioduszewski will speak alongside Anna Iwanicka-Nijakowska, Juliettta Juliettta Jokisz, and Beata Wieczorkowska from the National Library during the event “Intangible Copies of Audiobooks and E-books—Legal Status, Acquisition, Processing, and Access,” organized by the National Library and Audiobook.pl.
