In the article, Professor Ryszard Markiewicz considers several copyright issues using Pablo Picasso’s painting “Guernica” as his point of departure. He discusses parody and pastiche, as well as the challenging question of whether colorizing this painting can be considered an infringement of personal copyrights.
“It seems that the most interesting part of the article concerns the use of a small fragment from Picasso’s work in Marcin Maciejowski’s painting “Bucha”, which is otherwise a blank space. I am considering here, among other things, the question of the work’s existence and whether there are grounds for identifying it as a quotation.”
